Who is ABBYY?

In November of 2007, Fishers Document Systems entered into a VAR agreement with ABBYY USA. The question we get is, "Who is ABBYY, and what does she do?"

 ABBYY is not a she; ABBYY is a software company that produces a really interesting product that you may want to consider. ABBYY describes themselves as follows:

“ABBYY develops linguistic and artificial intelligence (AI) software providing a full line of document recognition; document conversion and data capture technologies and products. ABBYY is an international company with over 600 employees worldwide (as of June 2007). The overall number of users of ABBYY products and technologies exceeds 20 million people all over the world (according to internal research). "

As many organizations move into scanning or storing digital images in either an EDM solution, or even on a network drive, people time is still spent classifying the document, naming it, and storing. ABBYY allows an organization to streamline these processes. 

Depending on what you are looking to do, create searchable PDF’s, convert PDF to Word documents, or wholesale scan and index documents. ABBYY has a product that automates the processes.

As an example, you can take a stack of invoices to be paid, place them in a scanner, and hit the button. What happens then is pretty neat. The software identifies the document type, in this case an invoice, the searches the body of the document and finds whatever you want, such as invoice number, due date, etc. Then when it has this information, you can export the image to a document management system or other database, and all of the information that you captured is made into index data and sent to your database.

You then can search your repository by name, date, invoice amount or range of amounts, or any combination thereof. What would have taken perhaps a pool of clerks hours to enter, can be completed in a matter of minutes.

ABBYY is not limited by text. Handwriting can be captured and analyzed, forms that have checkboxes can be classified and the data stored for processing, or any combination of these functions can be simultaneously executed.

As companies migrate from paper to electronic records, products like ABBYY’s Flexicapture line, vastly improve processing times, and reduce errors.
