In 1985, Mahn purchased Fisher's Office Products, a nearly 50-year-old office products company that was doing about $800,000 a year in sales. The company was started in 1936 by Tom Fisher, who was a salesman for Underwood typewriters and decided to open an office products business.
More than 20 years later, the company is now called Fishers Document Systems with 50 employees and annual revenues of more than $10 million.
The company no longer sells office supplies but instead sells printers, fax machines and copiers to companies throughout Idaho including large clients such as Micron Technology.
While growing his company, Mahn had to deal with the first influx of big box stores which forced him to take his company in a new direction.
Mahn's efforts led to him being profiled in the book "Up Against the Wal-Marts," which looked at 10 companies that had successfully competed against the discount giants.
This year, Mahn's company celebrates its 70th year. Mahn, 63, is the third owner of the company.
