Idaho's largest locally owned copier company relocates to Veterans Parkway

BOISE, ID – NOV. 27, 2007 – Fisher’s Document Systems today announced the opening of its Technology Center, located in its new corporate headquarters at 575 E. 42nd Street, just off Veterans’ Parkway. While the move was prompted in part by the company’s need for more office and warehouse space, Fisher’s management believes that the greatest benefit of its new facility will be the ability to simulate document management solutions based on their clients’ actual workflow environments.   
“In the past year we’ve increased our staff by more than 25 percent, thanks to a 30 percent increase in revenue,” says owner Gary Mahn. “We needed a bigger facility, but we also saw this as an opportunity to create a more advanced facility. As a result, we are able to approach our business in an entirely new way.”
The Document Systems Technology Center
            Fisher’s Document Systems’ Technology Center occupies nearly half of the 2nd floor of the company’s new building. The Center is divided into several document management “pods,” each of which includes a widescreen LCD display that demonstrates the particular document management tasks being performed in the pod. The pods can be configured with different types of equipment and software to mimic the document workflows of individual companies. 
            Using an Accounts Payable Department as an example, one pod might represent an AP Clerk entering an invoice for approval, while another pod simulates a traveling manager’s laptop who can approve the expense while on the road. This is a capability that Fisher’s has been working toward since hiring its current CEO, Chris Taylor, in early 2006.    
             “We’ve moved beyond the concept of a ‘showroom’ as an area in which we demonstrate the features of the equipment and software we sell,” says Taylor. “What clients are really interested in is how document management solutions are specifically applied to their own business environment. Beyond the document management and workflow simulation capabilities, our technology center is equipped with Windows XP, Vista, Linux and Macintosh operating systems to demonstrate our ability to integrated with most existing platforms.”
A Document-Centric Approach
            The creation of its new Technology Center reflects changes that Fisher’s set in motion in 2006. Reflecting on these changes Taylor observes, “our business model was transformed with the recognition that the modern office revolves around the document, not the copier. Competing in this environment assumes a comprehensive understanding of a client’s document workflow and providing the appropriate solutions based on that understanding. Our Technology Center supports this new approach.”
